Rehydrosal

Rehydrosal is used to prepare a mixture for the treatment of mild and moderate dehydration caused by diarrhea, burns and vomiting. It is recommended for the prevention of dehydration and maintaining hydration in infants, children and adults and also, for all other conditions accompanied by an increased need for water and electrolytes (preparation of patients for x-rays and endoscopic tests of the colon). Rehydrosal has an agreeable banana taste.
Ingredients (1 bag – 14g contains): Glucose Monohydrate, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate, Potassium Chloride, natural banana aroma.

What is dehydration? rehidrosal

Dehydration is a disbalance of electrolytes and water in the body, caused by diarrhea, vomiting, exposure to high temperatures.

Rehydrosal is recommended for mild dehydrations, the early signs of which are:
• Dry mouth and tongue
• Less frequent urination (dry diapers with children)
• No/little tears when crying

Rehydrosal represents a therapeutic choice for a proper compensation of electrolytes while sweet and soda drinks lead to the worsening of symptoms because of too much sugar, and should be avoided.

The dehydration problem can develop gradually because it is a cumulative process: if a child is 1% or 2% dehydrated during the first day and does not compensate for the lost fluids during the night, it will be dehydrated 2% or 4% at the end of the second day.

It is very important to monitor child’s hydration and to start giving Rehydrosal on time.

How does one take Rehydrosal?

The quantity of oral rehydration solution which needs to be taken depends on the child’s/person’s weight and the level of dehydration.

Manner of preparation: dissolve the content of a bag in 500ml of boiled water, cooled at room temperature. Prepared mixture can be used within 24 hours. It is administered in small portions (using a teaspoon or taking sips from a bottle, or mug).

Depending on the level of dehydration, babies and small children should take Rehydrosal in dosages of 50-100 ml/kg of body weight during the period of 4-6 hours. If the state of normal hydration is not achieved, the process should be repeated every 6 hours in the same way.

Rehydration and maintenance of normal hydration with older children and adults is based on the similar principle, with a proportionally higher intake of Rehydrosal, from 1-3 L a day.

Rehydrosal does not stop diarrhea but it keeps the body hydrated while it lasts. As well as with many other causes, it is a part of therapy for traveler’s diarrhea, especially in warm climates. With vomiting, one should wait 10 minutes for the stomach to rest before slowly administering prepared mixture.
